Aegean Airlines: Strong Premium Experience, Undermined by Weak Wi-Fi

I flew with Aegean Airlines yesterday on their A320neo, heading from Athens to Barcelona, and the experience reminded me why the airline has such a strong reputation for service. The business cabin was spotless, the seat was comfortable, and the food was genuinely enjoyable. It felt like a well-thought-out product rather than a collection of disconnected elements.

What really made the flight stand out was the crew. They were attentive without being intrusive, and the overall atmosphere on board felt calm and well managed. A special mention goes to Panagiotis, the senior crew member, who handled the cabin with real professionalism. He anticipated what passengers needed, checked in regularly, and carried himself with the kind of confidence that only comes from experience. People like him make a noticeable difference on premium flights.

Not everything went smoothly. The onboard Wi-Fi never quite stabilized, and the moving map froze just before we reached Barcelona. The streaming content, interestingly, worked without a problem. Panagiotis explained what might be happening behind the scenes, which I appreciated, but it reinforced an ongoing issue across the industry: digital reliability matters. It is no longer an optional extra, particularly in a premium cabin. Aegean’s partners will need to tighten things up if the airline wants the full experience to match its very strong service.

Things picked up again on the ground. The business lounge opposite B13 in Athens had a great spread and a friendly team, and the Aegean mobile app worked smoothly from check-in through boarding. It is clear that the airline is thinking seriously about its digital ecosystem; it just needs the in-flight connectivity piece to catch up.

All in all, it was a very positive trip and a good reminder of how much frontline teams and consistent product delivery shape a premium travel experience. Aegean is doing a lot right, and improving the digital backbone would bring the experience even closer to excellence.
